Setting the applied voltage equal to the voltages across the inductor plus
that across the resistor gives the following equation.
Which can be rearranged to give:-
Solving the above first order differential equation using a similar approach
as for the RC circuit yeilds.
The voltages across the resistor and inductor can now be written as:-
